Seasons in Berlim
In winter, the cold and short days, especially in December, January and February, can be a bit discouraging. But the Christmas Markets in December bring a magic to the city, and the Berlin Film Festival (Berlinale) in February makes for an exciting time in the city, not only for film enthusiasts. Either way, definitely pack plenty of warm clothes if you to go to Berlin in the winter.
Spring is one of the best times to visit Berlin. It’s sometimes rainy but otherwise the sky will be clear and sunny. The trees and flowers start to bloom, with temperatures rising to 20ºC (68ºF) in May.
Summer is the peak season, with daily temperatures ranging from 19-25°C (66-77°F). But it’s also the wettest period, so besides short sleeves it’s always a good idea to bring an umbrella and a light jacket.
There are several events and summer festivals, including beer gardens, open-air cinema (called Freiluftkinos in German) at the Kulturforum near Potsdamer Platz, and artificial beaches on the banks of the Spree.
Temperatures drop abruptly in autumn. The average high goes from 19ºC (66ºF) in September to 8ºC (46ºF) in November.
