Fortaleza – Pinto Martins International Airport (FOR) is located about 14 kilometres (7 miles) south of Avenida Beira-Mar in the city centre.
Fortaleza Airport is the main airport in Brazil’s state of Ceará. There are direct flights connecting Fortaleza to various international destinations. The city can be reached from Bogotá with Avianca, from Buenos Aires with GOL, and from Caiena with Azul. The main carriers to Europe are Condor (Frankfurt), Meridiana (Milan), and TAP Portugal (Lisbon). LATAM connects Miami and Fortaleza.
Beginning May 2018, there will be direct flight connections between Fortaleza and Amsterdam (KLM), Paris-Charles de Gaulle (Joon), and Panama City (Copa Airlines). Finally, a seasonal service will connect this Brazilian city and Orlando in the US (LATAM).
Here are your transport options to and from Fortaleza Airport.
By bus (ônibus)
The executive bus 917 is your best option if you don’t want to pay for a taxi or Uber, and are staying in a hotel on Avenida Beira Mar. This recent route that goes through Fortaleza’s city centre was created to serve tourists visiting Fortaleza. The service runs from 6.30am to 10.30pm, with buses leaving every hour. A ticket costs R$ 5.
There are also regular buses that you can take to reach the city centre. Bus 404 connects the airport to Fortaleza’s main bus station (Rodoviária) from where you can go virtually to anywhere in the city. The service runs frequently, every 15 minutes or so. Bus 066 gets you closer to hotels on Avenida Beira Mar, but we don’t recommend it if you’re carrying luggage, as the stop is still a bit far. The bus fare is R$ 3.60. If travelling at night, it’s safer to take a taxi or Uber.
By taxi
There are two types of taxis available outside the airport, both white. Fortaleza Airport Taxis operated by Coopaero are more expensive but have fixed prices (somewhere around R$ 45). Hire this service from the desks in the arrivals hall. Regular taxis operated by Coopertáxi use meters, and may be slightly cheaper depending on traffic – a ride to Avenida Beira-Mar is on average R$ 25-35.
By Uber
You can take an Uber in Fortaleza. You need a smartphone to access the Uber app. Depending on your destination, there’s a chance an Uber ride may cost less than a cab ride.
