Hamburg is a big city, the second largest in Germany, and Hamburg Airport (HAM) is the fifth largest airport in the country.
Fortunately, the airport is located just 10 kilometres / 6 miles outside the city centre.
So, getting to downtown Hamburg from the airport is quick and easy. Use this guide to find out what your transport options are.
By Train
The journey on the S-Bahn (S1) commuter train between Hamburg Airport (Flughafen) and Hamburg’s Hauptbahnhof (central station) takes about 25 minutes. The airport station is directly in front of the terminals, easy to reach by elevator, escalator, and stairs.
Trains run every 10 to 20 minutes. A single ticket costs €3.40. Check out other ticket prices and timetables at Hamburg’s public transport network website – HVV.
By Taxi
A taxi ride between the airport and the city centre costs around €30, and takes 20 to 30 minutes depending on your final destination.
